Description of Post

The Assistant Caretaker will report to the Senior Caretaker in terms of day-to-day work direction.  The responsibilities will involve regular maintenance of the School Buildings and Property, driving the School minibus as required, occasional cleaning, groundwork, open and lock up of premises including the setting of alarms, remedial and planned painting, responding quickly to any Health and Safety concerns that are identified, setting up and other preparatory work relating to School performances and distributing School deliveries to recipients. Other responsibilities of a similar nature will be part of the job. 

Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will be proficient in the area of carrying out basic maintenance work, have a full and clean licence which is valid for driving a minibus which can carry up to 16 passengers and have the ability to prioritise the tasks which are most important.  Good communication skills are very important given the diverse nature of the post and attention to detail is also an essential attribute. 

Hours of Work

The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 13.15  to 18.15.  In addition the Caretaker is required to deputise for the Senior Caretaker during periods of absence including holidays.  Occasional overtime work will be required during busy periods.

Salary and Benefits

A competitive salary will be offered and the successful candidate will be enrolled in the School’s defined contribution pension plan. The post will attract 20 days of personal choice holidays and 11 days of fixed holidays. The school will require 2 references, 1 of which must be from a current or previous employer.


An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
