Outstanding SATs Results

Well done to all of our year six pupils who achieved excellent results in their SATs all the children achieved level 4 in maths and english with 91% recording Level 5 in English, 88% Level 5 in maths. These are excellent results and we congratulate the children, teachers and parents for all your support. We continue to Aim High at Highfield !

Year 4 Preston Schools Mini Tennis Tournament

Congratulations to four year 4 pupils have qualified for the next round of the Preston Schools Mini Tennis Tournament this take place on Friday 18th June at Fulwood Tennis Club.
The team consisted of Katie , Amy , Harry and Alec.

The UK Chess Challenge

Members of Chess Club have been taking part in the UK Chess Challenge this term – they have all had to play seven matches with 3 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss. To make it through to the next round, players had to score 17 points or be the highest scorer in their year group.

Preston Schools Swimming Gala

Congratulations to the Swimming team who came first out of 30 local schools in the Preston Schools Swimming Gala on 15th March, with a lead of 20 points. This was the second year in a row that they have won - a fantastic achievement.

Dogs for the Disabled

Dogs for the Disabled


We were treated to a visit from Margaret and Peter Widdicks, with their dog Scout, on Monday morning. Scout is a five year old golden retriever – he helps Margaret around the house and also accompanies her wherever she goes. He is trained to react to fire alarms and empty the washing machine!
Margaret thanked the children for the money they had raised for this charity.

ISA National Cross Country Championships Results

Rachel and Andrew (year 5) represented the Under 12 North of England ISA Cross Country team and the results were -
Rachel – 31st out of 84 runners, out of the North team of 12 runners Rachel came 6th.
Andrew – 16th out of 84 runners, out of the North Team of 12 runners Andrew came 3rd.
These are superb results in very muddy conditions, Well done!

ISA North Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to all pupils who represented Highfield in the
ISA Cross Country Championships at Highfield Park, Cheadle Hulme.

Special mention must go to Rachel who came 8th and Andrew who came 9th in the Under 12 race out of 100 plus runners.

Also, Piers, Max and Kane who were the youngest runners to go to the event.

Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Football Club

The Year 5 and 6 boys have been lucky enough to have a coach from Preston Grasshoppers coach rugby to them in their Games lesson this term. This is a great opportunity for the pupils.

Highfield Priory School is constituted as a charity and is subject to the Charities Acts, and regulated by the Charity Commission. A new Charities Act came into force in 2006, and under that Act, the Charity Commission issued guidance requiring schools constituted as charities to demonstrate public benefit explicitly, whereas previously it was presumed.

Year 6 Choir sing in St. George’s Centre

On Thursday 10th December, seventeen members of the Year 6 choir entertained shoppers in St. George’s Centre, Preston, with their delightful singing of Christmas carols. The choir was accompanied by Miss Macklam and Mrs Haythornthwaite who would both like to say a big thank you to Mrs Riding for her help with transport and supervision; and Mrs Newby for taking photographs. We raised £102.92 for ‘Dogs for the Disabled’; the charity chosen by our Student Council earlier this term.See pictures on the main school gallery.

Congratulations to the team for winning the Preston Indoor Games.Highfield Priory will now go on to represent Preston in the Sportshall Athletics Finals.
Well done to the year 5 and 6 pupils who took part.

David Horner Visits Highfield

We were joined at Highfield last week by poet, David Horner, who has spent time in all the classes from Reception to Year 6. He is an amazing poet who helps the children to write some truly inspiring poetry.
The children presented their poetry to parents and grandparents during two Poetry Presentation sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. (Photos of these presentations can be viewed in the gallery section and the poems written by Year 6 children can be seen on 6P and 6H class news pages.)
