Hockey Match against Kirkham
On Thursday 6th November the school Hockey A team went to play against Kirkham. The team consisted of: Rikki, Pheobe, Alex, Matthew, George, Sam and myself, Joe .
It was an extremely tough match, everyone played brilliantly. In the first half both teams had a tough defence and no one managed to score.
Early in the second half, Kirkham managed to run past our defence, followed by another quick goal, making it 2-0 to Kirkham. Rikki then scored, but unfortunately Kirkham did also. Late in the second half Rikki then scored again.
The final score was 3-2 to Kirkham. Although we lost the whole team played well and we were happy to score 2 goals because last year the score was 0-0.
Player of the match go’s to everybody!

Highfield B vs Broughton B

13 Nov 2008

We started off with some brilliant shots from long range in the first half from George and Bradley which all of them came one or two inches away from the net. Soon after we had a fantastic shot from George in our own half and it soared into the back of the net. Unfortunately we conceded a goal almost straight after as we had some sloppy defending from a corner. At half time the score was
3-3. We kicked off in the second half and had some crazy shots from the halfway line but all of them missed. As we tried to score we unfortunately conceded 4 goals in the process and only scored 1. As the second half whistle went the final score was 8-4. Despite our defeat we had many talents in the squad like Georges quick feet, Bradleys excellent passing, Bens accurate shots, Sris slide tackles, Adityas blockage skills, Johns lob passes, Christopher’s fantastic saves and my wing play. This was our first match as a team and played well and are ready for our upcoming fixtures.

Highfield (2) v St. Pius X (5)

On the 5th of November Highfield A team played St. Pius at home. The team consisted of Georgina, Preana, Amelia, Phoebe, Ella, Henrietta and myself.

In the first half we had to move around the court very quickly to keep up with our opponents. Pius’s centre was a very good player and was stopping us from gaining possession of the ball so therefore we struggled to have many attempts at shooting.
The score at the end of the first half was 5-0.

We played much better in the second half of the match because we were determined to beat Pius. We moved around the court much quicker and gained possession of the ball more often. Good passing from Georgina and Henrietta created quite a lot of attempts at goal and we managed to score 2.

The final score was 5-2 to St. Pius.

Tag Rugby Tournament at Giggleswick School

27 Oct 2008

On 22nd October Highfield Tag Rugby squad set off to Giggleswick for a tournament. The team consisted of Rikki, Mitch, Matthew, George, Callum, Ryan and myself.
Our 1st match was against Giggleswick A team. We had many good passes but were paid back with a 5-2 score to Giggleswick A. Our 2nd match was against St.Pius A team. We battled hard and our attacking was great but St.Pius took their chances when gaps appeared. The final score was 6-4. Our 3rd match was against Hunter Hall A team. We really wanted to have pay back for our most recent match against them but unfortunately lost 5-2. Our 4th and final match was against Giggleswick C team. We expected this would be our easiest match as it was a C team but we were proven wrong with a nail biting game as we won narrowly 6-5.
We had many talents in the A team, George’s quick feet on the ball, Callum’s supporting work, Rikki’s powerful runs, Matthew’s sprints, Ryan’s quick thinking, Mitch’s possession play and my defending. With tries from Rikki, Ryan, Matthew, Callum, George and myself we came 3rd in our group. This was our 1st tournament of the season so we did extremely well to come 3rd.
We also took along a B team which did well coming 2nd with a loss against Hunter Hall B 5-3, a win against Giggleswick C 4-3 and another win against Giggleswick B 5-1. With tries from Ben, Sam, Matthew Newby, Nathan and Joe the B team did even better in their 1st appearance as a team in tag rugby.
We would like to thank Miss Sykes and Mr Duke for organising this tournament and driving us to and from the venue.

On the 16th of October Highfield A team travelled to SMH for our second netball match of the year. The team consisted of Georgina, Preana, Amelia, Phoebe, Ella, Henrietta and myself.

We all felt we played much better than last week and we did some great passing which meant we had lots of attempts to shoot but unfortunately missed them all. Georgina as Wing Attack did some great defending which stopped SMH getting more goals.

Special thanks must go to Portia who stepped in as Goal Attack for the second half as Henrietta hurt her ankle just before half time.

The final score was 4-0 to SMH

Man of the Match goes to Georgina.

Preston Schools Football Tournament at VIDA

20 Oct 2008

On the 14th October the Highfield football A team went to play a tournament against different schools. The team consisted of Sam, Nathan, Matthew, Mitch, Ryan, Ollie, Umar and me (Rikki). In the tournament there were four groups of five in our group were Broughton, Grange, Eldon and St Anthony’s.
For the first game we played St Anthony’s, we got off to a great start with Matthew having a shot from the half-way line and with a stroke of luck, pace and power from the shot the keeper dropped the ball and it went past the line. A couple of seconds after the kick off Nathan scored from the outside of our area to make it 2-0. Again only a couple of minutes later I scored twice to make the final score 4-0 which was very good considering there were five minute games.
As we started the second game against Grange we got off to a good start with Ollie scoring early. Not long later Mitch scored followed closely by me to make the final score 3-0.
As our penultimate game of the day we played Broughton which we knew would be our hardest game as we had been informed by Matthew and Ryan that they had a player called Ben Woodall who was really good, but that didn’t stop us trying our best. As the game kicked off we were quite shaky but soon we got into the game more and I scored a goal from just outside the area. Even though we had just scored there heads didn’t drop and scored two goals one of which was a penalty. Even though I equalised they unfortunately scored again to make the final score 3-2 to Broughton.
For the final game we played Eldon with Umar scoring quite early and Ryan following. They managed to get one back but Umar managed to score again to make the final score 3-1.
During the tournament we all had our special strengths and talents, for Sam it was his safe hands, for Nathan and Matthew it was there rock solid defending, for Umar it was his skills, for Ollie it was his pace, for me it was my powerful shots and for Ryan and Mitch it was there superb passing.
As the tournament was unable to finish we don’t know if we got through to the next round lets hope for the best.

We didn’t get off to a great start with Grange scoring quite early. Grange managed to get passed our defence again to score another goal. Close to the end of the half Ryan managed to score to make the score at half time 2-1.

After a team talk with Mr Turner, we started the second half. Around the middle of the half they scored. Even though it was 3-1 at the time we still had enough determination to score with a goal from Matthew. A couple of seconds after Matthew had scored they managed to score again, making the final score 4-2 to Grange.

It was perfect weather for playing outdoors. The Arnold girls are always tough competition and this match was no exception.

In the first half Arnold played very well and made us work really hard to gain control of the ball. A special mention has to go to Phoebe and Preana who had to work extremely hard in defence. At the end of the first half the score was 8-0 to Arnold.

After half time we managed to get more possession of the ball in the second half. Some good passing between Preana and Georgie gave Henrietta the opportunity to score a great goal.

We had an excellent start to the half scoring two tries in quick succession. The final score was 12-9 to Hunter Hall. Even though we lost the match, the whole team played well considering it was our first match of the year. Preston School's Swimming Gala

20 Mar 2008

On Thursday 13th March 2008 Highfield swam superbly in the Preston Schools Swimming Gala.

The team consisted of Ella, Larissa, Emma, Olivia, Andrew, Francesco, Henry and myself. There were some spectacular individual and team performances.

Highfield began the gala with a 2nd place from myself in the girls frontcrawl, swiftly followed by Francesco who came 3rd in the boys frontcrawl. Emma took 1st place in the girls breastroke and Henry took 2nd place in the boys breastroke. Then Larissa was given 2nd place in the girls backstroke after much deliberation, as it looked like she and the other swimmer had touched the wall at the very same time. ( she was robbed of 1st place – our unbiased opinion of course!) After this Andrew swiftly took 1st in the boys backstroke.

Highfield were 1st place overall at the halfway point of the gala. Then when we took 2nd places in the freestyle relay and the medley relay we slipped back into 2nd place overall, losing first place by only two points!

Both Emma and Andrew went through to the final on Friday 14th March when Emma took 2nd place in the breastroke and Andrew took 3rd place in the backstroke.

Congratulations to you all, everyone swam brilliantly.

Swimmer of the gala was the whole team for their combined, excellent performance.

Netball Match V St Pius X

17 Mar 2008

On Tuesday 26th February, Highfield’s A team went to play an exciting netball match against St Pius X.

The team consisted of: Ellie , Alex Emma , Hannah Anam , Katie , Nicola and myself. The match was twelve minutes each way.

The first half of the match went extremely well, with Highfield scoring every few minutes, and great defence whenever St Pius X tried to score. When twelve minutes was over, we swapped ends and began another twelve minutes of netball.

Again, Highfield was scoring goals frequently, and the defence was strong. Emma’s shooting skills were amazing, as she shot two incredible goals from the edge of the goal-circle. By this time, we were very confident and played as well as possible. St Pius X managed to score two goals, but we kept playing strongly.

The final score was a super 9 - 2 to Highfield.

Player of the match is awarded to Ellie.

Well Done!

St Marys Hockey Tournament

St Marys Hockey Tournament Wednesday 5th March 2008

On the 5th March Highfield went to play a hockey tournament at St Mary’s Hall and we played 4 matches.
The team consisted of:
Katie , Emma , Olivia , Ellie and Alex, Hannah , Naomi , Ellie B and Nicola.

Highfield v St Mary’s Hall
This was a really tough match as it was their A team, in the first half Highfield had a short corner but didn’t manage to get the ball in. After half time Highfield played strongly but St Mary’s Hall managed to score. The score was 0-1.

Highfield v Sedbergh
This match was easier with Katie managing to get the ball past the defenders and scoring twice after half time the score was 2-0. In the second half there was some good passing and Highfield managed to score another two times by Olivia and Hannah.

Highfield v Arnold
Again this match was a tough match but despite that the defenders and attackers still played really strong, we also had several shoots at the goal but their defenders managed to get the ball of us at half time the score was 0-0. After half time Arnold just managed to score.

Highfield v St Mary’s Hall
This match was to win the plate tournament, for the first half Highfield had 99% possession of the ball. After half time Highfield still had a strong possession of the ball and within the last 10 seconds of the match SMH b team managed to break past the barrier and managed to score.

a very big congratulations to the whole team but especially to Ellie because it was her first time in goal for a whole tournament and doing terrific saves.

Netball Match V St Pius X

02 Mar 2008

On the 26 February Highfield went to St Pius x to play a netball match. The team consisted of Hayley, Naomi, Beth, Georgie, Nicola, Perana and myself. In the first half there was lots of good passing with some fantastic moves by the team. This led to our first goal scored by Hayley.

Towards the end of the first half we managed to steal the ball from St Pius x and pass it down the left hand side of the court through the Wing Attack and Centre into the third quarter to Hayley. Perana scored our second goal following a brilliant pass from Hayley.

St Pius x came back at us and managed to score there first goal before the whistle blew for Half Time.

After an !!!!!!!! Team Talk Highfield where ready to start the second half. With St Pius x taking the first centre they where quick to get the ball through Highfield’s defence and into the net with what I have to say was, a great goal.

Highfield were determined to score again and with that determination the defenders managed to block another shot on goal by St Pius x and pass the ball through Naomi, Georgie on to Ellie through to Beth and into the net with only 5 minuets of play left. The goal scored by Hayley was a welcome relief for the B Team.

Highfield Won 3-2
