Athletics Match V Kirkham Grammar School- Girls
13 Jun 2010
On Tuesday 18th may, the Highfield Athletics team travelled to Kirkham Grammar school to take part in our first Athletics match of the year.
First, Beth and I got ready to take part in the first event- the hurdles- where I came 3rd and Beth- 4th. Next, the 60m took place and Ella and I managed to come 1st and 2nd, only just overtaking the other team.
Ella and Charlotte put a lot of effort into the 1 lap race and were placed: Ella- 2nd and Charlotte- 3rd.
Rachel did brilliantly on the 2 lap race and came 1st, but only a few metres behind came Emma - 4th. On the first lap, Rachel and Emma were getting tired but kept the energy going throughout the race. Unfortunately, Rachel was entered in the 3 lap race which was straight after her 2 laps- so she had a disadvantage on winning. Beth also took part in the 3 laps- coming 5th and Rachel coming 6th.
In the high jump, Ella and Beth successfully reached 1m 5 cm before Beth had an unfortunate mishap- hitting her back hard on the bar. She carried on without a doubt and reached a massive 1m 10 cm! Ella came 1st and beth came 2nd.
The relay was successful- the A-team were 2nd and the B-team were 3rd . The final score was Kirkham- 57 points and Highfield- 53 points. Well done to all the girls who took part in any of the events!

21 Mar 2010
On the 11th March Highfield A team travelled to Cottam School to play a football match. The game started with both teams having a lot of chances but neither team being able to score. Both teams were pressing for a goal but couldn’t score.
Half time the score was 0-0. After half time Cottam won a corner. The ball was crossed in and Cottam scored with a good header. We were determined to get back into the game and we did. Good play from Callum on the wing forced a Cottam player to hit it into his own net. Cottam then went on the attack and scored a long range shot. Highfield were attacking a lot and against the run of play, they had a throw in and it came of the head of one of our players and went in.
Final Score
Highfield 1 – 3 Cottam
Rugby - Highfield v KEQMS
21 Mar 2010
On the 10th of March, 2010, Highfield travelled to Lytham to play rugby against KEQMS.
At the start of the game both teams played well but KEQMS had the advantage and slipped past our full back and scored the first try of the game.
Straight after this, Highfield were awarded a penalty, taken by Ammaar, and confidently awarded, making the score one all.
The second session started and although Highfield were strong in defence, KEQMS were able to slip past and score another try.
In the final session Highfield, were showing determination and eagerness and were definitely the better team but just couldn’t pass through their full back..
The whole team played fantastic, but in particular the fast runs from Ben and George stood out and good passing from Bradley, Andrew and Joseph made this a brilliant match to watch.
The final score was 2 – 1 to KEQMS.
Well done to all of the team.

Rugby Match QEGS v Highfield
03 Mar 2010
On the 24th February, Highfield travelled to Blackburn to play rugby against QEGS school.
Highfield started extremely well, showing some newly learned skills and good, strong tackles.
QEGS quickly responded to Highfield’s movements, resulting in them breaking through the defence and scoring the first try.
Highfield soon reacted and an accurate pass from Ben to Matthew, led to a fast run down the wing and the first try for Highfield. Having gained confidence, Highfield followed quickly with their second try from Ben.
At the end of the first session the score was 2-1 to Highfield.
The team came out very positive from their lead and some fast runs, and a great pass from Ollie, led to the third from Matthew, leaving the score 3-1 to Highfield.
In the final session, the QEGS team, showed some very dominant play and seemed determined not to be beaten, a slight disagreement between the referee and one of the QEGS players, resulted in his sending off!
Highfield continued their good play, with some fast runs from Joseph and strong defending from Callum, but the team appeared to be tiring in the final session, although a mistake by one of the QEGS players dropping the ball, resulted in another try for Highfield from Dan..
The score now being 4-1 to Highfield, would have everyone thinking that this was Highfield’s game, but although everyone was plating fantastic, a little lack of concentration and some tired legs, led to QEGS coming back and scoring four more tries, taking advantage of the situation.
The final result ended 5-4 to QEGS, but the Highfield team, showed great enthusiasm and teamwork and will take this to the next game.

Just outside the area, a good pass from Andrew set up a powerful shot for Callum which went in. Matthew then scored his fourth of the day to make it 7-2 to Highfield. On the 9th December, Highfield travelled to Westholme to play a football match. It was hard for both teams to play at the start because we were on astro turf. Both teams started well and both had lots of chances of goal. 10 minutes into it, Westholme struck on the counter attack and scored. Not long after, an outstanding strike by Matthew in off the post made us level. Half time 1-1. After half time, Westholme started very well in the second half and scored very early. It gave them confidence to score another and they did to make it 3-1. Westholme started playing very well and began to have a lot of possession and score another.

Highfield vs Harris
11 Dec 2009
On the 2nd December Highfield football team travelled to Cottam Sports Arena to play Harris. Both teams made a great start to the game and were evenly matched. Soon into it, I hit the post. Then, after some good passing it came to Callum and he scored. After that goal it gave us confidence to score another and that’s what Matthew did from close range. At half time the score was 2-0 to Highfield. Straight after half time Daniel went on a good run and scored a great goal. Harris started to get back into the game and a cross came in and came off one of our players and went in. Straight from kick off the ball was laid back to Ben and just after scoring an own goal, he shot from his own penalty and somehow it went it. Harris then went on a counter attack and scored a great goal. Not long after, some good play on the wing by me helped Laurence score a great goal.

In the second half we were stronger but Kirkham scored another goal. We passed well and Beth scored a goal but in the last few minutes of the match Kirkham scored again to make the final score 3-1 to Kirkham. Everyone played really well and the man of the match goes to TBA

Football Highfield vs Scarisbrick Hall
25 Oct 2009
On the 14th of October in the ISA cup our A team played Scarisbrick hall. The game started well for Highfield as myself played in a corner and Ben got on the end of it. After a handball by Highfield Scarisbrick hall got awarded a penalty which was only denied by Chris. Soon after it was a throw in for Scarisbrick hall and it came of one of our players heads to make it 1-1. There was very good passing play from Highfield but we still couldn’t find that second goal.
Both the managers decided to play extra time and in the second half of it, another throw in came for scarisbrick and was missed by our defenders and unfortunately came off there player to go in. A great all around performance by all the team but we were unlucky not to win.

HOCKEY vs HUNTER HALL
11 Oct 2009
On Wednesday 7th October we travelled to Hunter Hall in Penrith to play them at hockey and tag rugby. It was a new experience for most of the players as we were playing on a grass pitch.
We did very well at the start and Ella nearly scored a goal but Hunter Hall piled on the pressure and stole the ball off us many times – fortunately Christopher played excellently in goal fending off many shots.
With the score still 0-0 Miss Sykes decided to bring on Ben and George who had been playing in the tag rugby team.
This wise move really turned the game around and we started to put more pressure on Hunter Hall. Within a few minutes George had scored a great goal putting us into the lead.
Hunter Hall reacted by scoring the equalizer – but in the last few minutes Ben scored the winning goal and the final score finished at 2-1 to Highfield
All the players worked really hard, Heather made some great passes and Emilia stole the ball many times so the boys could score the goals.
