Introduction
Two thousand four hundred years ago the great Chinese philosopher Confucius gave the best maxim for teaching and learning which still holds true today and I commend it you. He said,
"Tell me and I forget, Show me and I remember, Let me do and I will learn"
At Highfield we value not only traditional academic subjects and success but also value and attempt to develop children’s creative and imaginative aptitudes, whether it is in music, drama, dance or sport. With our new state of the art Art, Design and Technology facility we extend the opportunities available to our children.
It is our intention to ensure that this is the pervading ethos at Highfield and that all the children will have every opportunity to learn in an exciting and dynamic school environment. They will have opportunities to design, to create, to build, and in so doing, learn.
Our aim is to be able to provide the boys and girls of Highfield with the very best learning opportunities.
This philosophy is seen from day one with the youngest children in our 2+ nursery and then throughout the Foundation Stage and Early Years curriculum. The approach is continued with the older children where teachers are constantly reviewing how and what they teach. Regular INSET is organised to ensure teachers are up to date with the latest developments in teaching and how children learn. In this way we keep up to date with the latest developments and ensure we use the best combination of traditional teaching and modern styles including I.C.T, interactive whiteboards, guest speakers and a variety of visits.
Our teaching and learning philosophy reflects our school aim to always "Aim High at Highfield".
