Introduction

Highfield Priory is an Independent Co-educational Day School for children from the ages of two to eleven years. Situated in the Fulwood area of Preston in nine acres of grounds, with easy access to the M6. Highfield Priory is recognised as one of the leading Prep schools in the North West and is consistently ranked highly in The Times Top 100.
Our school offers a happy, stimulating and caring environment in which everyone is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. The emphasis is on high standards in all aspects of school life and not just academic success, demanding high standards of behaviour, good manners and developing a sense of responsibility and self-discipline.

My colleagues and I have tried to give you a 'flavour' of the school in words and pictures. It can only be a flavour or snap shot as it is difficult to convey accurately in words and pictures all that takes place in a busy, productive but above all happy school. The school is divided into three distinct yet integral sections.

There are three Key Stages at the school:

1) The Foundation Stage - Nursery classes and Reception (3 to 5 year olds)

2) Key Stage 1 - Years 1 and 2 (5 to 7 year olds)

3) Key Stage 2 - Years 3 to 6 (7 to 11 year olds)

There is also a 2+ nursery for children who are taught in our homely 'Bungalow' specialising in pre school nursery care.

All children follow a programme based on the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the Early Learning Goals as outlined in the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage.

We use the National Curriculum as the template on which to frame our curriculum but as an independent school we go beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum and tailor the teaching to match the needs of our children as best we can. As a result we offer French from Year 3, elocution lessons, a full and varied sports programme with inter-school matches, a variety of school visits both locally and for the older children residential activity visits. There are over 30 extra activities and clubs available to the children either during the lunch break or after school.

School Aims
* To encourage all pupils to develop their full potential by stimulating their intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm and imagination
* To promote excellence in academic, creative and sporting endeavours
* To teach the value of integrity and a concern for others
* To enhance pupils' appreciation of their own and other cultures
* To develop self-confidence and independence so that they are well equipped to play an active role in society
We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities and clubs, we play competitive matches against other schools, including local primary schools. Highfield is amongst a limited number of schools who have achieved the Sports England Active Mark Gold for our commitment to sporting activities
The arts in the form of music, dance and drama play a large role in the life of the school and the children are able to sign up for individual instrumental lessons with specialist tutors.
The new science laboratory along with the ICT suite and Art, Design and Technology studio complete the redevelopment of the schools state of the art science and technology facilities. Together the three combine to give the children of Highfield Priory an unparalleled opportunity to study science and technology at primary age. It is believed to be a first for a school catering for primary age children to have such an innovative and inspiring facility. These are just an example of the latest stages in Highfield's continuous development to ensure the very best resources for its pupils, putting the school in a league of its own.
The focus on aiming high at Highfield ensures that our pupils consistently obtain places at the secondary school of their choice.
