Extended Care
The School is aware that its parents often work long hours and need care for their children before and after the normal school day. Highfield, therefore runs a system of before school and after school care during term time and a holiday club. The intention is to ensure that there is care at school when most parents need to work.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club begins at 7.30am each day. Qualified staff supervise children (as young as two years of age) between 7.30 and 8.30 each morning. There is a small charge of £2.50 per day or £10.00 per week. This is further discounted for siblings. Children may choose from a variety of cereals, juices, fruit, yoghurts and toast. At 8.30am children join their peers in the playground and younger children are taken to the Nursery.
After School Care
After school care provides a happy, safe and caring environment until home-time. The emphasis is on the children having a good time, they have finished their day’s work and we provide an environment where they can play with their friends, relax and socialise.
After School Care Ages 2-6
After-school care begins at 3.15pm for children aged 2 –6 and is available up to
6.00pm daily. Children of these ages go to the Nursery where they are cared for by fully qualified staff. A variety of activities are planned. After School Care is charged for depending on the length of time a child is there:
3.15 – 5.00pm £45.00 per term per night.
3.15 – 6.00pm £56.25 per term per night.
A family discount rate is applied for those families with two or more children.
3.15 – 5.00 pm £63.00 per term per night.
3.15 – 6.00 pm £78.75 per term per night.
For parents who do not wish to book their children into After School Club on a regular basis may use the club on an 'as and when required' basis. The charge per night for this is £5.75 until 6pm for one child or the family rate is £8.25.
When the children arrive from their classes the first thing they do is to have a snack and drink. They sit around tables with each other, chatting, eating and generally enjoying themselves. The favourite snack at the moment is the toasted cheese sandwich – Mr Williams is a regular visitor and strangely always seems to arrive around snack-time.
After eating, the children either play indoors or outdoors, depending upon the weather. We encourage the children to play outdoors as much as possible, they enjoy having a noisy run-around. We find most parents are grateful for this as, by the time they get home, they have used up a lot of their energy.
We have a rolling programme of activities with a wide range of resources for the children. Indoor activities include board games, colouring, card-making, story-telling and construction etc. Outdoor play involves a lot of dressing up, races, role-play, football and digging (mostly looking for worms). We have a lot of outdoor mats so there is always a lot of handstands and roly-poly, though the children tend to prefer lounging around on them with their friends.
The children enjoy the time spent in the after school care, they are happy with their friends and surrounded by staff who are caring, warm and fun. In fact, so much so, we find they are often rather reluctant to leave.
After School Care: Ages 7-11
After-school care begins at 3.30pm for children aged 7-11 and is available up to 6.00pm daily. Children of these ages go to the homework room ,where homework is supervised by a member of the teaching staff. After School Care is charged for depending on the length of time a child is there and the rates are as shown above, again a family discount rate is applied for those families with two or more children.
On arrival from their classrooms the children have a snack before begining their homework. Once completed the children are allowed to read a book of their choice. At 5pm the children go across to the nursery and join in the activities of the younger children, on arrival they are given another snack and a drink. For the older children, we hold quizzes, board-games suited to their age and supervised videos.
Sibling rate for club activities
If one of your children is attending an after school activity such as Karate, Design Club or Wizzkids, and your other child does not wish to attend that club, they may join in the fun at the After School Club at a discounted rate of £2.75. This allows parents to only have to do one pick up from school at the time the club activity finishes.
