Dear Parents
3H Assembly
Thank you 3H for your fascinating assembly about the Romans. You told us all about the life of a Roman soldier, their invasion of Britain and how life changed in Britain as a result of this. We learnt about Roman towns, roads, drainage, amphitheatres and underground heating. It was also amazing to hear how many of their inventions are still used in everyday life today. You spoke very eloquently, demonstrating a sound knowledge of the subject area. You have obviously really enjoyed the topic and your Roman Day. Thank you to Mrs Hill for organising this assembly.
World Book Day and Mastermind
Thursday definitely felt like a scene from a novel. With snow covering everything in sight, snowflakes swirled around as children skipped into school dressed as a wonderful array of characters from literature. I saw The Mad Hatter, Postman Pat, Willie Wonka, Harry Potter and lesser known characters like Patience from, ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ and Freya from ‘Odd and Fast.’ The children were not only trying to guess the identity of each other but they were also asking questions about the novels themselves. Hopefully, this will inspire them to read an even greater variety of novels.
World Book Day Mastermind was once again a very close contest. All the children in Year 6 took part in the early rounds and Ziyad, Zain, Sophie, Lilland and Apala made it through to the Final which was held on Thursday morning. This is an excellent achievement as it required remembering facts from four books for the early rounds and an extra book for the Final! After two very tight rounds, Sophie was crowned Mastermind Champion for 2018.
Independent School Results
Congratulations to our amazing Year 6 who passed their Independent School Examinations and gained a place at their chosen school. They also achieved an incredible amount of scholarships. A full list of their achievements will be published later in the year.
Planned Nursery Development
We are planning a potential development/extension to our current Nursery. There will be a few exploratory holes dug to the side of the Nursery which will be clearly marked. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. More information regarding the proposed development will be published when the details have been finalised and a start date has been confirmed. Please be assured that the Nursery will remain open during the proposed work.
Winter Wonderland
Snow comes to Highfield! The children have had a wonderful time this week playing in the snow. I was with our Infants on Tuesday at breaktime and they were the first out to enjoy the snow: making snowmen, snow cars and lots of other interesting creations out of the snow. Many children were acting out Ice Skating routines and Skiing positions, inspired by last week’s Winter Olympics. On Wednesday, at breaktime and lunchtime, it was the Juniors turn out on the All-Weather pitch which was once again a blanket of white snow. The Juniors took full advantage of the conditions to play a wide range of imaginative games, including snowballing much to their delight! Thank you to Mr Forrest and Mr Barbosa for keeping all the key paths and roads open and all the staff for their support in keeping everyone safe, especially on Tuesday.
Winter Uniform
Please could all hats, gloves and scarves be traditional and in plain school colours. School hats and gloves are available to buy at the Office.
News from the Nursery
Nursery have loved the snow this week and have enjoyed making snowmen and snow angels. There are lots of winter pictures on our Facebook page. Please take a look and like our page. This week we have been focusing on shapes, numbers and counting skills. The children have also shown an interest in Weddings which will continue into next week.
Open Day
Open Day will be taking place on Sunday from 11am-3pm. I look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the success and achievements of your children. Please invite anyone you think may be interested in coming to see Highfield Priory School.
