Dear Parents

2D Assembly
This morning we were on Safari with 2D who have been studying Kenya as a topic this term. They were all very keen to tell us what they have discovered. They knew so many facts! They told us that it takes 9 hours to fly from Kenya to the UK and that 45 million people live in Kenya, speaking mainly Swahili and English. In their Science lessons they have been learning about the habitats of Kenya as well as the animals that live there. In English, they have been learning how to expand a noun phrase and they have been writing interesting sentences about Kenya.
The jagged, sharp mountain. (Ayman)
The crouching, quiet cheetah. (Sophie)
The vicious, roaring lion. (Muhammad)
The crashing, splashing waves (Taylor)
You have certainly been busy in your lessons! It was really interesting to see how the different subjects have combined together to help you understand more about Africa. You were very knowledgeable and your assembly demonstrated a real passion for the subject. Well done 2D and thank you Mrs Davidson for organising this Topic Assembly.

Open Day
A big thank you to everyone who attended our Open Day. Our Year Sixes were very busy with tours all day and we received lots of positive feedback regarding the children’s confidence, eloquence and how passionate they were about the school. The visitors were also incredibly impressed by the extremely high standard of work on display especially considering the children are only of primary school age.

Out and About in the Baby Room
I was back visiting the Babies on Wednesday morning. They had just finished their snack and were ready for the next activity. Zahan and Thomas B were playing with oats: filling up the cups, pouring them out and enjoying the texture of the oats as they let them fall through their hands. They were communicating with each other and Miss Fowler, showing her each action with a big smile. Sofia was playing with the walker and was particularly enjoying the spinners which she liked spinning, moving around and listening to the noises they made. Thomas S helped me to build a dodecagon tower before he knocked it down. He really enjoyed repeating this activity, especially knocking it down! He then joined Sofia to take it in turns on the walker. Zahan then gathered up all the tools and cups and saucers to have a picnic with Mrs Johnston on the other side of the room. He settled down on the cushions, bouncing and laughing with delight when he was tickled. Thomas S had moved onto the chalk board and showed really good control to make marks. There was a lovely atmosphere with the beat of African music in the background to which, I am told, the children really enjoy dancing. It was lovely to see the children communicating with each other and the Nursery staff in very calm surroundings which allowed them to explore lots of different activities with confidence. I will definitely have to return soon for the African dance session!

Rossall Rugby Tournament
Congratulations to our Under 11s Rugby team who had a very successful Rossall Invitational Tournament. They won their group, winning three games and drawing one. They played excellent attacking rugby, spreading the ball wide and scoring in the corner. This was especially the case in the last game which was won by 4 tries to 2 against Abbey Gate. In the final, Highfield really contested the breakdown and dominated the second half but we were unable to get the try to level the game after going two tries to one behind in the first half. We eventually finished runners-up and second out of ten schools in the Emerging Schools Tournament. An excellent achievement and a fitting way to end our contact matches for the year. Next week the rest of the boys in Year 5 and 6 will be travelling to Oakhill to play Tag Rugby.

Easter Egg Raffle
The PTA will be selling raffle tickets in the Dining Room, in the morning and at home time, from Monday19th March until Wednesday 21st (morning only). Please keep bringing Easter Eggs in to the Office.

Highfield Priory School

Building Strength and Individuality

The latest from Highfield Priory

We went digital in Year 5 at the end of last term as we recorded the pupils reading their favourite pieces of creative writing. ๐ŸŽ™ ๐ŸŽš

After they had made the recordings, the class then created a QR code for each and then put these together with the narrator's picture, ready for them to be listened to at our Open Day.

The class loved being part of this process and learning how to make their work digital, and the parents really enjoyed listening to their childrenโ€™s stories. ๐Ÿ“– Great work Year 5! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚Photos from Highfield Priory School's post

Class 6H enjoyed a trip to local retirement home Bethany House recently.

In preparation for the visit, the children had learnt some traditional songs, including songs from famous musicals. Once there, the children entertained the residents with a good old-fashioned sing song and even brought along song sheets so that everyone could join in! ๐ŸŽค ๐ŸŽผ

The class had also made some Easter cards for all the people who live there which they handed out before sadly having to wave goodbye to all the ladies and gentlemen.

It is always so lovely to see our children forming such good friendships with the residents and it is great to see Highfieldโ€™s relationship with Bethany House going from strength to strength! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚Photos from Highfield Priory School's post
