"The setting has outstanding resources, both indoors and out, which provide children with a wide range of interesting and stimulating learning opportunities." Compliance Inspection, 2016
Highfield Priory Day Nursery is situated on the school site and benefits from the best of both worlds. Whilst retaining an intimate home-from-home atmosphere in the Bungalow, it has access to all the school facilities and the children are able to enjoy walks (including babies in prams and pushchairs) around the school nature reserve: Highfield Haven; visits to the school library; dance lessons in the Performing Arts Studio and PE and Games in the Sports Hall and on the sports field.
The nursery children have their own outdoor play area which includes a tricycling/ scootering area, a den area, two play houses, a billy goats gruff bridge and a castle! It is adjacent to the school playground and the older children are an endless source of fascination to the younger ones! Older siblings are able to chat to their younger brothers or sisters at playtime and Year Six monitors often help out in the nursery and play with the younger children. By the time our nursery children are of school age, they are excited by the prospect of being like the bigger children and there are already many familiar and friendly faces in the playground.
As the children become confident on their feet and we feel that they are ready for more, we begin their transition to our Nursery School. The Nursery Manager will contact parents and let them know that their child is ready for this transition. The Nursery Manager and parents will liaise over a two week period as this transition takes place and make sure that their child is happy and settled in this familiar, yet new, environment. The child’s day will become a little more structured and they will begin to venture out into the school, enjoying new experiences and opportunities.
"The overall effectiveness of the Early Years provision is outstanding. Across the age range, children make excellent progress from their starting points; they are well prepared for the next stage of their education and by the end of the EYFS they are ready for school."
