Dear Parents
Thank you 3H for your excellent assembly this morning on the Ancient Greeks. It was lovely to see many of you performing for the second time in a week. I always enjoy listening to what you have been studying in class and to witness your interest in the subject. You taught us so much: Greek inventions; some of their myths and legends; their beautiful buildings and their interest in sport. I also found your role play about the Greek gods highly entertaining. It does sound like a fascinating topic. Thank you to Mrs Hill for your direction and I hope you will invite me to attend one of your lessons soon to find out more.
A Busy Day in Nursery
Our Nursery children have been making bird feeders this week. They used pipe cleaners and Cheerio cereal! Joshua, Georgia, and Eloise worked very hard threading them and then tying string on very carefully. They are going to hang these feeders up in our outdoor area so that they can watch the birds out of the window. A second group of children, Noah, Samuel and Amelia, were playing colour lotto, taking it in turns and really communicating well with Mrs Elstone, Miss Wenk and each other. Hanna and Aamir were enjoying exploring our new messy room which has been a real favourite with the children. There is always lots of laughter, splashing and plenty of mess, excellent! Lyla, Ayesha and Aibhlin were enjoying music and movement to ‘Sticky Kids’ in the movement room with Miss Wyllie. So much fun!
The Witches
What can I say! Highfield Priory School put on a production of The Witches in the Charter Theatre on Wednesday night. The play started with children as young as 4 taking to the stage to perform a very memorable witches’ dance which was to set the scene for the rest of the performance. The children’s confidence and the quality of their acting was quite incredible in ones so young. To stand on a stage in the main theatre in Preston with the spot light on you in front of 300 people, sometimes on your own, was nothing short of amazing! You really made each part your own and the audience was yours from the start to the finish. The dancers showed a variety of genres of dance: street jazz, ballet and tap, which they have been learning in extra-curricular clubs at school. All their practice really paid off with so many dancers coming together for each dance and performing to a very high standard. To see nearly 100 pupils, which is over half our school, taking centre stage (with the majority of performers being between the ages of 4 -9) was amazing. The buzz from the audience afterwards included many positive comments from members of the public, who were not connected with the school (but had bought tickets just to see you!) as well as from very proud parents. You should all be very proud of yourselves indeed. As one member of Year 4 said after the show, “Now I know I can do anything!”
I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff involved and especially to Mrs Duke and Miss Burns for giving our children this opportunity to shine and to realise the potential that they probably didn’t even know they had!

New Logo for our Nursery
We have introduced a new logo for the Highfield Nursery which incorporates an owl at the centre of the crest. This owl represents the learning that is achieved in our Nursery and the children’s love of the great outdoors which is seen in their frequent visits to Highfield Haven.
