Dear Parents
Christmas came to Highfield this week as our wonderful PTA moved through the school like fairy dust, transforming everything in their path. The school now looks fantastic –thank you! Rehearsals for the Carol Service and Nativity are well underway and the excitement is building. We are all looking forward to the school Carol Service next Thursday, followed by our Christmas Fayre on Friday.
Out and About
Year 4 had their first full rehearsal on Thursday morning for Ernie. They were all very excited and really enjoyed seeing the play take shape, laughing out loud at the jokes. I could really see the children’s acting improving with every word. The actors were also really enjoying the reaction of their peers as an audience. The early rehearsals look very promising and I can’t wait for the production in February. The energy, enjoyment and enthusiasm of the children at this early stage is definitely going to provide us with a real treat.
School Charity
The children have spent the last few weeks discussing, in class, which children’s charities they would like the school to support this year. These charities were then presented at an assembly last week. After further discussion, the children completed a voting slip last Friday and placed it in an envelope which was collected by Year 6 pupils who then counted the votes. The process really felt like a General Election with the children taken responsibility for every stage of the process from the initial choice of charities to the final counting of the votes. The charity with the most votes was Baby Beat and we will now be raising money to support this charity throughout the year, starting with a collection at the Carol Service next Thursday. HPPTA News
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Safira Sabir as our new Treasurer from January 2016. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Danni Littlefair for all her hard work as Treasurer of HPPTA for the past 2 years.
Every family should now have the information for our Christmas Party day and Fayre next Friday, 11th December.
For children in the main school, please bring in £5 to your child’s class teacher if you would like your child to enjoy all the activities on offer during the day.
There will also be the opportunity for you to buy a class photo of your child and Father Christmas on the day. This is an extra £3 per photo, please see the accompanying PTA letter.
We hope you will support our raffle with the top prizes being a Self-Balancing Scooter and a Spa Day for 2. Please return any unwanted raffle tickets to the school office.
We look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Fayre next Friday 11th December 3.30pm-5pm!
Preston Schools’ Indoor Olympics
Approximately thirty schools from all over Preston attended the Guild Hall to take part in the Preston Indoor Olympics. The children took part in a range of events from Long Jump to Chest Push, Speed Bounce and a variety of Relays. All the schools represented a country and we were Greece. Flags were flying and the colours of the countries were represented throughout the hall which created an exciting atmosphere. All the children competed well and we were placed 5th overall. Well done to all the children who took part.
Beech House Swimming Gala
On Friday 20th November, the school took part in a Gala with eleven other schools in Middleton, North Manchester. The Under 10, 11 and 12s were all competing as a team for an overall trophy. The children won lots of medals across all the events with many gold medals, especially in the relay races. Highfield won the trophy for the A team group which consisted of all the larger schools. A great achievement for our swimmers, following on from our amazing success at The Northern ISA Gala.
Netball v Bridgewater School
The pink team travelled to their first away game at Bridgewater School in Manchester. They were feeling a little nervous about a new challenge with a school they have not come up against before and playing on a full size netball court. We quickly gained the lead, ending the first third with the score at
4-0. Highfield kept a clean sheet thanks to the fantastic defensive teamwork from Katie H, Manahil and Olivia D. Bridgewater had some particularly strong players and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the match. Both our centres worked very hard to create chances for our attacking trio to secure a 13-0 win! A great way to finish the final game of the term, well done! Congratulations to all the girls who have remained unbeaten all term! Miss McShane
Football v Bridgewater School
The boys played with real spirit and for periods in the first half and at the start of the second half they dominated the game. However, we were unable to maintain the pressure and Bridgewater capitalised on the space and won the game with some clinical finishing.
Thank you to Bridgewater School for looking after us so well. We look forward to hosting you at Highfield for future matches.
Year 4 ISA Cup Match v Brabyns School
It was our first home fixture on our all-weather pitch on Thursday. The boys were incredibly excited and after forty minutes of play they won convincingly 10-1. Congratulations to the team on a historic win on our new pitch!
Sports Clubs
There will be no sports clubs after school until the end of term due to the staging and preparations for the Nativity and Carol Service. Running club will continue in the morning.
All-Weather Pitch
We are getting lots of use out of the all-weather pitch and we will be using it in most weather conditions. Please could you make sure that all children have a towel in school so that they can dry themselves and get changed into dry clothes after PE and Games.
Gum Shields
Junior girls have moved onto Hockey now and will need to make sure they bring in a gum shield for every session. Please could parents make sure they are moulded at home carefully before they are brought into school.
Junior boys will be moving onto Rugby after Christmas. They will also need a gum shield and towel for each session.
Scholastic Book Fair
I would just like to say such a big thank you to all the parents, grandparents and children who supported our Book Fair this week and last. We sold just over £1000 worth of books so we now have £630 (in commission) to spend on books to use in school! Thank you! Mrs Haythornthwaite
Chess Congress at Colne
