Dear Parents
3M Assembly
This morning, 3M transported us back 3000 years to the time of the Ancient Greeks. We learnt about many different aspects of Greek culture from life as a soldier to the Olympics and children’s games. I particularly enjoyed watching what it would be like to be in school: writing on wax tablets, using an abacus in maths and watching a play about Daedalus and Icarus (a famous Greek myth). It is definitely a fascinating period of history to study and we could all see your enjoyment for the subject throughout the assembly. Congratulations to 3M and thank you to Mrs O’Shea for arranging the assembly.
Open Day this Sunday
It is Open Day on Sunday from 11am until 3pm for all current and prospective parents. Please come and have a look at the children’s work on display and celebrate their achievements from this year. It also gives you an opportunity to have a look at what lies ahead for your child in the coming years. Please tell any friends about our Open Day as we would like to celebrate your children’s work and achievements with as many people as possible. Thank you!
Out and About
I popped into Nursery on Wednesday morning and it was a hive of activity with children busy in every corner. Miss Catherall was entertaining the children with nursery rhymes and musical instruments. They were all joining in and shaking their musical instruments together. Ayaan told me he was playing music in the music room and demonstrated very enthusiastically how he could shake his bells in time to the music.
In another corner, Arthur W and Nathanael were building a house, chatting and smiling as they worked away industriously. Nathanael was also very proud to show me his welly boots. Amaanah walked past with two handbags and said she was off to the shops to buy some lipstick. Presley kept running up with a big smile on her face and giggling before running away again. In the messy area, Hugo and Toby told me they were making wriggly worms with play dough and were really enjoying being creative. Wei-Ann was entirely focused in the sand area, filling up lots of different pots and pans carefully. Mrs Beaumont was working with a group of children who were looking at different types of plastic bugs, discussing their colours and then putting them on a sheet of paper with dots so they could count them. Tabitha really enjoyed this activity, studying each bug carefully. Finally, I watched Arthur K, Alexander and Leighton in the measuring area with Mrs Elstone measuring rice into different sized objects. The children were really enjoying going from one activity to another, interacting with each other and the Nursery Nurses. They were all very confident and keen to show me what they were doing. Thank you Nursery for a very enjoyable Wednesday morning!
Easter Raffle
Children are already excited about the annual HPPTA Easter Egg raffle! The draw will take place on Wednesday 23 March during assembly. They can buy raffle tickets for £1 per strip from Wednesday 16 March, 8.10am-8.30am and each school morning until Tuesday 22 March. Could Pre-School and Infant children please buy from the Infant corridor and Juniors from outside the school office. Thank you. We rely on donations from parents for this event and always aim for all children, who have bought a ticket, to win a prize. There will also be a top Easter Egg prize for the first raffle ticket drawn. Easter eggs (dairy free eggs are also gratefully received) can be left in the school office from Monday 14 March.

Sports’ Awards at The Guild Hall
Our ISA Northern Swimming Team and National Swimmers have been shortlisted for the Preston Schools’ Primary School Sports Team of the Year Award and the ceremony is at the Guild Hall tonight. The children will attend the event and, if they are successful, they will go up on stage to collect their award. I would like to congratulate the team for being shortlisted and will update you with how they have done on the school’s Facebook page over the weekend.
ISA Netball Tournament
On Monday, we had a fantastic day out in the sunshine at the ISA U11s netball tournament at Hulme Hall School. The standard of netball was very high and we quickly realised our group would be playing against some of the top teams in the region. We won 2 matches and lost 2 which included a 2-1 win against Wilmslow Preparatory School and a 3-1 defeat to the tournament winners, The Grange School. The girls learned a lot from the day and are looking forward to competing in the competition next year when the majority of them will finally be in the right age group! Rugby v Westholme School
The U11s travelled to Westholme to play rugby on Wednesday. The boys were excited about playing their last match on a very wet pitch which quickly turned into a quagmire after a few minutes. The boys revelled in the conditions with the game being kept very close and mud flying everywhere! Mauls dominated both games but, when the ball was passed wide, the boys ran with pace and were direct and their defence also kept Westholme at bay. We won both games against Westholme’s development sides. The majority of the boys were head to toe in mud by the end but very happy and looking forward to the showers. Sorry parents for the extra washing! It did seem that they brought a lot of Blackburn back in their bags at the end of the day!
