Dear Parents

1D Topic Assembly
Thank you, Year 1, for your fantastic topic assembly today in which you focused upon the work you have been doing in Science and Geography. Your Science topic for this term is identifying animals. I enjoyed your explanation of the animal groups and the differences between the animals in each group. You impressed us with your knowledge about animals and with your delivery. In the second part of your assembly, you took us on a trip around the world, including India and Russia. You also gave us an insight, through the eyes of a child your age, into each country which was particularly fascinating. Thank you for sharing your topics with us; it was lovely to see how passionate and enthusiastic you are about each subject. Thank you Mrs Davidson for organising this assembly.

Victorian Villainy
What an incredible performance last night from our Year 5 and Year 3 pupils. Their singing and acting were outstanding! Year 5, you impressed us on the stage last year at The Charter Theatre but it was clear, last night, that your confidence has grown and your acting ability has flourished. You lit up the stage! I really enjoyed your solo and group performances which were sung beautifully and with such composure. Year 3, in their first HPSED public performance, also impressed the audience and showed incredible promise for the future. To stand in front of such a large audience and deliver every line with clarity and meaning really added to the play as a whole. They had researched the Victorian era thoroughly and provided many interesting facts throughout the performance. The singing from Year 5 and Year 3 was excellent and I know I will be humming the tunes for weeks to come. Thank you Mrs Duke and Miss Macklam for all your hard work and direction and for achieving such a high standard, enabling the children to realise their potential. Thank you also to Mrs Jones, Mr Drake and Mrs Morrice for their help and support of this production. Last night certainly saw Highfield at its best!

News from the Nursery
This week in Nursery, the children have been using their hand-eye coordination to hammer golf tees into play dough and corks which has been helping with the development of their gross motor skills. Over the last few weeks we have been watching our tadpoles grow and turn into frogs and, on Tuesday, we went to release them into The Haven. This was very exciting and the children really enjoyed the experience. In the garden, the children have been exploring the sand shed and using lots of mathematical skills such as measuring and pouring. They have been making some sandtastic creations! Miss Shallcross

Internet Safety Talk
Next Friday, 17 May, Dr Robert Musker will be delivering an Internet Safety talk for all children from Key Stages 1 and 2.
There will also be a session for parents from 3.30-4.30pm. Dr Musker consults on Internet Safety to schools across Lancashire. I hope as many of you as possible are able to attend this valuable session.

NCTs
Good luck to all our Year 6 pupils who will be taking their NCTs next week. They have been working incredibly hard during their time at Highfield and they are ready and eager to take on these tests!
Make sure you all have a restful weekend and come in on Monday fully prepared, refreshed and ready to perform to the very best of your ability. I am proud of you all.

Kids’ Cup Tournament at Play Football
Last Thursday, a number of our Infant boys took part in the local schools’ cup competition. It was a fantastic experience for all involved. The team worked hard and demonstrated an excellent level of team spirit. It was fantastic to observe all the skills and techniques we had been working on in our training sessions. To top it off, we even had our first win! Well done to the entire team. For the remainder of this term, we will be focusing on our cricket.
