Dear Parent,

French Assembly

Congratulations to all the children from Reception through to Year 6 who performed in the French Assembly this morning. It was lovely for the whole school to hear about what you have been studying in French. The assembly was narrated by Year 6 who introduced each year group who then sang a song linked to what they have been studying in class.

Reception and Year 2 sang: Voici ma tête!
Year 1 sang: Alouette
Year 3 sang: Stand up and sing the French Alphabet Song
Year 4 sang: C’est ma famille
Year 5 sang: Quelle heure est-Il?
Year 6 performed: Où est-Il?

Year 6 was also given the chance to put Mme Morrice on the hot seat and ask her about her time living in France. Mme Morrice told us that there were a number of differences between Highfield and her own school in France. Two examples she gave us were that the children did not have to wear uniform and they had a two hour lunch break because of the heat! However, her school did not finish until 4.30pm. It was really interesting to hear the wide variety of topics you cover during your years at Highfield and to see how this has an impact on your vocabulary and confidence in French. Our Year 6 pupils are certainly ready for their Secondary School French lessons next year. Thank you to all the children who took part and to Mme Morrice for organising this Assembly in a very busy week.

Independent Schools Inspection
The school had a focused Compliance and Education Quality Inspection this week. Five Inspectors visited Highfield and looked at every aspect of the school from the children’s welfare and safety right through to their academic and personal development. The Inspectors watched lessons and checked all our policies, procedures and records. They interviewed all the staff individually and in groups and conducted seven group interviews with the children. Although I am not allowed to divulge their conclusions until the report is published, I am allowed to say that I am very pleased with the report and extremely proud of every member of the Highfield Community. I would like to thank parents for the very high response to the parent questionnaire which really helped to support the evidence the Inspectors saw within school. The Inspection Report will be sent home with children when it is published. This may not be until September.

Summer Fayre
It is the Summer Fayre next weekend. This is one of the most important and enjoyable Highfield Community events of the year. I am looking forward to seeing all our children and parents and many past pupils and parents on Sunday 7th. We will also be showing many of the exhibits from our Museum of Creations exhibition in the downstairs classrooms of the main school building so please remember to bring yours in on the day. I know there are lots of parents and grandparents who did not get the opportunity, earlier in the term, to look through the exhibition and this is a wonderful opportunity to take your time to appreciate the children’s hard work and creativity. Raffle tickets will be coming home today, there are some fantastic prizes so please sell as many as you can. Please return the stubs with payment to the office along with any donations for the hampers and teddy tombola.

Beech House Inter Schools Athletics
21 children, from Years 3 to 6, travelled to Beech House School in Rochdale to compete in Athletics events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 4 x 100m Relay and 4 x 200m Relay.
We achieved 5 first places, 7 second places and 6 third places. This meant that Highfield came 3rd overall out of 8 schools. Well done everyone! Our Athletics team now looks forward to the Preston Schools’ Athletics Championships next Wednesday. Mrs Parsons
