Dear Parents

Deputy Head Appointment
I am delighted to announce that Mrs Prince has been appointed to the role of Deputy Head of Highfield Priory School. Mrs Prince has been a Deputy Head at two schools prior to her appointment at Highfield and she has done a fantastic job as Senior Teacher at Highfield since she joined us two years ago.

Sports Day
Last Wednesday, both our Infant and Junior children enjoyed their annual Sports Day. Things were a little bit different this year but that did not stop the children having just as much fun. Our Infant children were all given a coloured team to represent and the Juniors were representing their Houses. All children, both at home and in school, took part in 6 different challenges with the aim of scoring as many points for their team as possible. It was lovely to see so many children getting involved, decorating their gardens, painting faces and designing dances and warm-ups for their teams and showing the true spirit of Highfield in action. Well done to the winners of the Infant Sports Day: The Purple Team; and our Junior Winners: Bowland House. Congratulations to everyone, at home and school, who took part and made this a wonderful day to remember.

Out and About Across the Year Groups

Reception
The children in Reception have been finding out about ocean habitats and they have enjoyed the stories: ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and ‘Tiddler’. They have imagined life as a deep-sea diver, making a list of everything they can see; they also used origami to make their own paper fish. The children enjoyed testing waterproof materials that would be suitable for a mermaid’s tail and they counted objects and recorded their counting using tally marks. Super work, Reception!

Year 1
This week, Year 1 amazed us with their answers in a mini quiz about Year 1 maths concepts; they are doing so well! All the children in school have enjoyed being back and seeing all their friends again after such a long time. We have loved seeing them too!

Year 2
Last week, the children in Year 2 were extremely excited to compete in Sports Day - they waited with bated breath for the results! This week has been calmer as, in RE, we practised relaxation and meditation exercises at home and in school. We have continued to look at the story of Christopher Columbus and the children have designed some super postcards and written wonderful log book entries and letters. They have also used a world map to find countries and solved some riddles too. Well done, Year 2!

Year 3
The children in Year 3 have recently started their last history topic on Ancient Greece. So far, they have enjoyed learning about the country and the differences between Spartans and Athenians. So much so that they have spent over an hour on Teams taking turns in a Hot Seat activity, pretending to be one of them and asking each other questions. Some of them even dressed up! They are also loving the Greek Myths and Legends read on Teams by Mrs Morrice and they’ve had fun discussing them together too. Good work, Year 3!

Year 4
Over the last couple of weeks, our intrepid Year 4 pupils have travelled back in time to learn about the Vikings (Where did they come from? Where did they go? Why did they come here?). They then linked this work to their English topic on newspapers by writing an article about the famous first Viking raid in Britain on the monastery at Lindisfarne in Northumbria. Their fantastic work displayed not only a good grasp of how to write an effective newspaper article but also a sense of what it would have been like to be either a Viking raider or a peace-loving monk at that time.
The children continue to impress us with their effort, ability and conscientious approach to their work. We are very proud of them all!

Year 5
Our pupils in Year 5 have continued to work extremely hard over the last few weeks. They have been enjoying the challenge of some Year 6 work in both maths and English lessons. In Science, they have been creating inventions to solve everyday problems, both in the home or at school, and they are preparing to present their innovations to the rest of the group next week. 5H and 5M are also looking forward to a Year 5 Teams Show next week; this is when they will be displaying their musical, artistic, dramatic and maybe even magical talents!

Year 6
In Year 6, the children and Mrs Prince have been delighted to be back together again as a class. Whether children are at home or at school, they have all managed to join together to share news and learn new things. They are also busy thinking about the special Year 6 events which will come at the end of term. What a great week!

The latest from Highfield Priory

We enjoyed a wonderful Musical Assembly to close the term last week! 🎻 🎹 🎷

Children from both key stages performed in front of the school and their parents with the progress that the children had made clear to hear. It was also lovely to witness the first performances from some of our pupils. 🙂

Each of the instrumental groups were represented with the music teachers on hand to support their pupils. A big well done to all the pupils involved and we look forward to our final musical assembly later on in the summer term! 🎼 🎼Photos from Highfield Priory School's post
