Head Boy and Head Girl Deliver Their End of Term Poem

If you can wait and not be bored by waiting
As Kidblog takes an age to re-connect.
Or being muted, don’t give way to shouting,
Or turn off your camera and begin to text.

If you can dream, but not become a dreamer,
If you can think and keep focused on your aim.
If you can ignore parents in pyjamas
And multiply a fraction just the same.

If you can bear to shun your loving pet
Who craves attention and settles on your screen.
Or watch as Mrs Prince’s eyes grow wet
As she sobs at our Reader’s final scene.

If you can jump up and down in your garden
And fiercely compete at pitch and toss
And earn your points for Pendle, Fylde and Bowland
And smile upon your victory or your loss.

If you can force your heart and nerve and voice
To stand up for a world in which you believe;
To declare, ‘I have a dream, it’s my choice,
Work with me, see what we can achieve’.

If you can reason with Infants and keep your cool,
Or keep a game of playground footie fair.
If you can Monitor Reception and manage Pre-School,
Line them up, tuck them in and brush their hair.

If you can make the most of every minute
And seize every opportunity,
Yours is Highfield and everything that’s in it,
And, what’s more –you’re ready for Secondary School 6P!
