Dear Parents

Pre-School and Nursery News

Nursery
We have had a fantastic first week in Nursery. We have enjoyed meeting lots of new friends and making them feel very welcome in Nursery. We have been very busy getting messy with gloop and shaving foam and exploring different flavoured tea with teapots.
The Rising 3s have loved exploring their new learning environment with Miss Greer and Mrs Smithson. They have been sewing, developing their language skills with our curiosity cube and exploring numbers through play.
The Nursery children have had great fun exploring the water tubes outside. This has provided us with lots of laughter, giggles and some very wet children!

Pre-School
The children are settling in brilliantly and are excited to come in to Pre-School each morning. It has been lovely to see their smiley faces as they walk through the door and wave goodbye to their parents. The children are thrilled to be back with their friends and are enjoying sharing their news with one another.

School News

Reception
The children have all settled into their new class really well and are enjoying accessing all the different areas. They enjoyed meeting Mr Pirate and are looking forward to his golden coins when they finish their sticker charts. The children are keen to share their experiences and knowledge. Edward told his friends the names of bones in the body which led to Mrs Bennett teaching the children a funny song about bones. We are going to be finding out more about bones and our bodies over the next few weeks. Well done Reception for a great first full week.

Year 1
What a fabulous start! The children were delighted to see each other again and we also welcomed two new children. We have already had our first visit to the Art Room to learn about primary colours. We have been learning about farms in Geography and parts of the body in Science.

Year 2
Year 2 has had a fantastic start to the new school year. The children have been busy starting work on our new topics. This term, in Geography, we will be studying our capital city, London, and we are looking forward to learning all about the famous landmarks. Our topic in History is The Great Fire of London and, although this event happened 354 years ago it is a fascinating topic. The children have been busy painting pictures and learning about what London looked like in 1666.

Year 3
Year 3 has made an excellent start to life in the Juniors. Mrs Morrice and Mr Drake have been really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and excitement for the new year. In Geography, Y3 has started looking at the USA and the children used an atlas to find different states, comparing their sizes against each other. They were amazed to find out that the USA has an area of 9.8 million square kilometres!

Year 4
In Year 4, the children (and I) have enjoyed learning more about each other in HPSED, where they revealed little known facts about themselves, whilst demonstrating the presenting skills they learnt in Year 3. They were very excited to start their new Humanities topic –
Pre-Historic Britain and they enjoyed discussing how to become an archaeologist. In RE, we have started our topic of Sikh Rites of Passage and I was impressed with all that the children had remembered about this religion. A super start to the new school year!

Year 5
5M has started the year extremely well. The children quickly settled into the new school year and they have already produced some excellent work.
In English, we have been studying different types of nouns and they have all written incredibly imaginative and original poetry, based on abstract nouns, by exploring their feelings through their senses.
In Science, they have begun a topic on the life cycle of animals and they thoroughly enjoyed studying eggs, to see how life can begin.

Year 6
Year 6 has settled down very quickly this term and the children are enjoying the challenge of practising for the Grammar Schools’ Exams in October. The children had their first 'entrance exam' morning on Tuesday where they completed three papers with a short break between each. They have also enjoyed beginning our new Geography topic all about 'Mountains' and our Science topic about 'Living Things'. Keep up the great work Year 6!

Reminders

Pick-Up and Drop Off
Please could you limit this to one parent or carer per family so that we can reduce the amount of people on site.

Contacting Staff
Please email schooloffice@highfieldpriory.co.uk if you have any issues regarding your children. The message will be forwarded to the appropriate teacher. We are trying to keep face to face contact to a minimum.

Birthday Cakes
I am afraid that for the foreseeable future we will not be accepting birthday cakes or treats to be shared or handed out to the class. We will find other ways to celebrate their special day!
Thank you for your continued support.
