Dear Parents
A Celebration of Christmas
Congratulations to all our Junior children who have recorded their performance, ‘A Celebration of Christmas’, this week. I thoroughly enjoyed watching each class take to the stage to sing a Christmas Carol. This was a first for Highfield and it brought a real sense of togetherness as a class and community as a school. The introduction, poems and Haikus that were read between each carol were written by our wonderfully talented Year 6 and read by our Head Boy, Head Girl and our House Captains. A big thank you to Mr Drake for pulling all the class contributions together and creating our Celebration of Christmas. Also, a very big thank you to Miss Macklam for organising the performance and practising the songs with the children, on her keyboard at home, on Microsoft Teams whilst in isolation with Year 5. An amazing effort! We will release the link to the performance via parentmail on Saturday evening at 5pm. Please take the time to enjoy it with your family in the comfort of your own home.
Christmas Party
The children enjoyed an afternoon of Christmas games and fun last Friday. There were lots of Christmas jokes, a virtual visit from Father Christmas, party games, dances, presents and a great deal of laughter! I was also impressed by the huge array of Christmas jumpers. Thank you to the PTA, Ms Eccles and all the teaching staff for organising this festive event.
Pre-School Performance
Miss Burns and her wonderful Pre-School dancers filmed a brilliant performance on Tuesday for proud parents and grandparents to watch from home. The children have been practising all term and have learnt some super routines to a lovely range of music, dressed as dancing angels, robins, and reindeer. It was clear how much the children enjoyed these sessions as they all had huge smiles on their faces! We certainly have some very accomplished dancers in the school to keep an eye on in the future. Thank you to Miss Burns for arranging this performance.
Nativity
What a fabulous Nativity performance, Infants! The acting in Year 2 was excellent and there certainly wasn’t any evidence that you were camera-shy! You performed with poise and confidence and we could hear every word. I also really enjoyed the songs that each class performed throughout the show; you all sang beautifully! A big thank you to Ms Eccles, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Street for your direction and to all our Reception and Key Stage 1 staff for their support and thank you Mr Drake and Mr Aspin for filming and editing the performance.
Christmas Lunch
A big thank you to our kitchen staff who catered for two Christmas lunches on separate days this week. All the children and staff really enjoyed the experience with crackers popping and all the Christmas trimmings!
3D Assembly
Thank you 3D for your fantastic Assembly last Friday which focused on Ancient Greece. We travelled back 2500 years in time. You told us about the City States, Ancient Greek culture and the story of the Battle of Marathon. I was impressed by your drawings of Greek vases which included images of legends, famous battles, music and plays. The assembly ended with a Horrible Histories song about Greece which really brought out your enjoyment of, and enthusiasm for, the subject. Thank you 3D and Mr Drake for your informative and entertaining Assembly.

NHS Test and Trace during the Holiday Period
Please make sure that you have read the document emailed earlier in the week regarding Test and Trace during the holiday period.
I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work this term in incredibly challenging circumstances. It has been a huge team effort as we have worked together to create as much normality and stability for the children as possible. Our pupils have continued to make excellent progress and are always Aiming High! Thank you also to our parents for their support and for their very kind words and emails which always give us a boost. I would like to wish you all a very happy holiday and a happy Christmas. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 5th January. Sporting and ballet activities will begin again week commencing 11 January.
Any changes that may or may not arise during the period of Christmas and New Year will be sent to you via Parentmail.
Yours sincerely
J M Duke
