Dear Parents
French Breakfast
Mme Morrice hosted a French breakfast on Wednesday for our Year 5 children. They were greeted with French music and flags as they entered the Dining Room, with some of the children arriving in French dress. Each child took it in turn to order pain au chocolat, croissant et chocolat chaud in French. The children all tried hard with Madame Morrice looking on and supporting them with their pronunciation. Their French accents and vocabulary are really improving and they enjoyed having an interesting and tasty start to their day. Thank you to Mme Morrice and to Mrs Gilbert for organising this event.
Junior Mastermind 2021
Tuesday 11th May saw the final of our Year 6 Junior Mastermind. This is an annual event at Highfield where our Year 6 children are given 5 set books to read from September to February before Round 1 takes place. The children answer a set of questions based on these five books and those with the highest marks go through to Round 2.
In Round 2, the children answer questions about the five set books orally, as quickly as they can, hoping for a place in the final. Our four finalists, Ariana, Diya, Hasan and Olivia were then given another book to read - this year it was The Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars. In the final, our first round of questions was based on this book while the second round focused on the first five set books again.
This year's finalists held their nerve well as they answered questions on Teams with applause being heard from the other classes all around the school. Many congratulations to all four of you - it was one of the closest finals we have ever had and Ariana was crowned champion!
Year 4 Viking Day
A Viking came to Highfield today! He taught the children in Year 4 about what it was like to live in Viking Times, including what they ate, how they travelled in amazing longboats and how they fought. The children were really engrossed in the experience and learnt a lot throughout the day. I am sure it has given them a really good insight into this topic.
Junior Sports Day
It was lovely to see all the Juniors taking part in a competitive event on Wednesday with three separate year group Sports Days. The children really enjoyed the experience with lots of smiles, laughter and encouragement for each other. Every child tried their hardest with taking part and having fun being the main focus for the day. The children threw themselves into all the events; the traditional sack race and egg and spoon race caused the most excitement! All the children were awarded with medals and ice lollies for their achievements. I hope you enjoy watching the recording of the event and the photographs that we post on Facebook.
Open Morning on Sunday
Highfield Priory School will be having an Open Morning this Sunday from 9.30am until 12noon. If you know any friends or work colleagues who would like to attend, we still have a few spaces left. If they would like to email or phone the school office, we can arrange for them to have a tour of Highfield on the day. Thank you for your support.
Manor Adventure
The final preparations are taking place for our visit to Manor Adventure, with Years 5 and 6, next weekend. We are taking a very large group of 50 excited pupils who will enjoy a weekend of outdoor adventurous activities. They can’t wait! We will be publishing photographs on Facebook of the weekend.
Year 4 Production: The BFG
The BFG recording was finished this week and will be watched by the children next week before being released to parents at the end of the week. The children have really enjoyed their chance to perform as actors in Year 4 or within the dance routines choreographed by Miss Burns. The performance is excellent and I know you will enjoy it next week. You will be able to read a full report in the next newsletter after half-term. Thank you to Mrs Jones for all her effort in directing the show. An incredible amount of work goes into each performance and it really is appreciated. Thank you and well done, Year 4!
