Dear Parents

Thank you, Year 6, for your assembly about Leaders this morning. You talked about your very important job within school as a role-model to the younger children as well as the range of other jobs that you do to help the school run smoothly. I have certainly been impressed by how responsibly you have undertaken these roles, supporting teachers and setting a really good example to the children. It was good to hear you describe your duties with confidence in front of a live audience, showing a real pride in your achievements. It was also lovely to hear you recite the story about the tiny caterpillar and the hard work he had to put in to achieve his potential. I was really interested to hear the professions that you aspire to be leaders in when you leave school. I am looking forward to hearing that you have achieved your goals and considerable potential in the future. Thank you Year 6 and Mrs Prince for arranging the assembly.

Christmas Performances

Rehearsals are well underway for our Infant performance of ‘Manger Mouse’ and our Junior Performance, ‘The Sound of Christmas’. It has been lovely to see the children practising and taking centre stage again. They are really rising to the occasion with excellent singing and lots of stand-out performances. They are starting to get very excited about performing in front of their parent and peers and we are excited about watching them!

PTA Decorations

A big thank you to all the PTA, especially Mr Desai, who helped transform the school on Tuesday with Christmas decorations. The children were delighted with the transformation.

PTA Book Sale

Thank you to all parents and children for supporting the book sale this week. We had a wonderful range of books for all age groups. The children really enjoyed choosing books by new authors as well as buying books by authors they recognised. I hope they managed to stock up on plenty of reading material for the next few weeks and for the Christmas break. I am looking forward to the children making excellent progress with their Reading Challenge and hopefully handing out a few trophies after the holiday.

Forest School

Congratulations to Miss Travis who has now achieved the final part of the Forest School Leader qualification. This will enable Miss Travis to develop the range of activities on offer in Highfield Haven. The Haven has seen lots of development over the last few years and has been transformed by Miss Travis and Mr Forrest into an excellent learning environment for the children. It is a real highlight of the children’s week and they have access to it throughout the year. I look forward to seeing the continued development of Highfield Haven over the coming months.

Sports News

Football

Last Tuesday, we played against a very strong St Peter’s team in the Harold Slater Shield. St Peter’s took the lead after dominating possession in the first half. Highfield really tightened up in defence and worked incredibly hard to reduce the number of opportunities for the opposition. Highfield, after a well-worked move, managed to draw level. However, with the clock running down, St Peter’s managed to break out to score the winning goal.

We played two games on Wednesday against Rossall. The boys were very competitive in both games, showing a lot of commitment and effort. We drew one game 4-4 with Thomas scoring in the last minute and we lost the other game. Congratulations to all the boys who took part.

Netball by Jaya and Sophie

Highfield was up against Rossall and when we got there, we were split into three teams: the blues, the maroons and the blues/whites.โ€ฏThere were 6 matches in total and we each played two matches.โ€ฏThe first was played by the maroons, then the blues and then the blues/whites team. Everyone made a great effort and the teams tried their best. The scores were really close and at the end we were given refreshments and everyone had a great afternoon. Thank you to Rossall School for hosting us.

Swimming Success

Congratulations to Naina who came 4th in the National Swimming Finals at the Olympic Pool in London last Sunday. This is an incredible achievement especially considering there are 577 schools in the organisation.

Nursery

We are currently looking at numbers and staffing for the future and the next academic year in particular. If you are planning to enrol your child at Highfield in the nextโ€ฏ18 months, or if you would like to increase your days please collect an application form, from the office, so that we can ensure your place is reserved. If you would like a personal tour of our Nursery with Mrs Elstone, our Nursery Manager,โ€ฏplease contact the office.

Highfield Nursery benefits from many of the facilities on the school site which helps the children to prepare for their next developmental step. Our Nursery enjoys taking part in Forest School in Highfield Haven, choosing books from the school library and taking part in PE, games and dance sessions in our Sports Hall, Performing Arts Studio and on our all-weather pitch.

We will be holding a Nursery Open Day on Thursday 10 February 2022. If you are interested in attending this event, please let us know. Please pass on this date to any friends or colleagues who may be interested in learning more about Highfield Priory School and Nursery.
