Dear Parents
Thank you once again to the whole school and local community for your support after the recent arson attack. I would also like to thank all the staff who worked so hard in the lead up to, and during, half-term to create a fabulous new area for our Nursery. It was lovely to watch the children discover and explore their new area with huge smiles on their faces. Plans are now well underway for the rebuild of our Nursery.
School Charity: CancerCare
The School Charity this year is CancerCare which was voted for by the children last year. This charity was introduced to the school by Imogen who sadly lost her father in 2020 and was introduced to their services. Imogen and her family really valued the support of CancerCare during this very difficult period. We will be holding a number of fundraising events throughout the year in support of this charity. On Saturday 10th December, Mrs Carroll-Atkinson will be shaving her head in solidarity with people who have lost their hair whilst undergoing treatment for cancer. Staff will be speaking to children about the charity and explaining why Mrs Carroll-Atkinson is taking this action. Children may also have some questions at home.

Friday’s Music Assembly by Hanna and Naina
Welcome to our first Musical Assembly of the year. We have many musicians performing for you today, and we would like to welcome back our woodwind teacher, Mrs Adewale and our guitar teacher Mr Taylor. Today, some children will be performing for the very first time and we would like to congratulate them for really challenging themselves. There are probably more musicians playing today than ever before and we are delighted that the enthusiasm for learning an instrument at Highfield, continues to grow. Good luck to all our musicians. We will begin with the very first performance of our new Junior Choir. We have been learning several songs this term, but we have voted for our favourite: ‘Grumpy Teacher’. We would just like to reassure the teachers here today, that we are definitely not singing about anyone at Highfield!
There was also a surprise performance by Tejas who played ‘Happy Birthday’ for his brother, Sanketh!
Halloween Disco
The Friday before half term witnessed our first school disco for several years. Children, parents and staff were sporting some amazing, and truly horrible, costumes! After a Halloween feast in the dining room, the children were treated to DJ Drake on the decks. The children had lots of fun and it was a wonderful way to end the half term. Thank you to Ms Eccles and all the parents and staff, who supported this event, for making it a very special evening for the children.
M&M Productions
M&M Productions visited school last week and performed Sleeping Beauty much to the children’s delight. The children sang, laughed and gave all the required responses to a pantomime performance. It was a great start to the day and the children talked about it and sang the songs all week.
Mad Science Assembly
The school was wowed and amazed by the Mad Science Assembly today. Science was really brought to life in the Sports Hall with all the children and staff enjoying the experiments. You will receive a parentmail, inviting your child to sign up for this popular extra-curricular activity.
Children In Need
The school came together today to support Children in Need. We had a wonderful array of outfits on display which brought smiles to our faces and raised over £170 for a very worthwhile charity. It was a very positive and enjoyable way to end the week.
Grammar School Results
Congratulations to all the children who took the Grammar School examinations at the start of this term. 17 out of 17 children (100%!) passed the examination. An amazing achievement, well done!
Open Morning
Next Friday, 25th November, from 9.30-12noon, the school will be opening its doors to prospective parents. Our Year 6 pupils will be giving guided tours around the school all morning. If you have any friends, family, work colleagues or neighbours who may be interested in Highfield, please pass on the information.
Google, Facebook and Day Nursery Reviews
It always gives us great pleasure to receive letters and emails from Nursery and School parents, past and present, thanking staff for the support and care they have been given over the years. It means a great deal to the staff and provides them with a real lift on a weekly basis. We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to share your positive comments with reviews on Google, Facebook and Day Nurseries websites.

Preston City Girls’ Football
Congratulations to Lyla, 6P, who played in her first Preston City game over half term against Chorley. Preston won the match and Lyla scored a hat-trick.
GB Tennis
Congratulations to Naina, 6P, who has been selected to play for Great Britain’s tennis team against France next month. An incredible achievement.
ISA Swimming
On the last Saturday of half term, nine swimmers from Highfield Priory School travelled to Macclesfield for the Northern Region ISA Gala against 21 other schools. All our swimmers did incredibly well against many very talented club swimmers and in front of a large crowd. I was impressed by the support and encouragement the swimmers gave each other throughout the afternoon. Anoushka, Imogen, Wei Ann and Scarlett came second in their heat for the under 12s squadron relay and Wei Ann came second overall in front crawl and breaststroke qualifying for the front crawl relay team at the National event in London.
Football v AKS
All the boys in Years 5 and 6 travelled to the Fylde coast last week to play football against AKS. They put in a spirited performance in cold and windy conditions, competing fully until the final whistle. The A team showed particular tenacity in the last 10 minutes, fighting back to draw the game 2-2.
Football v St Mary’s Hall
All our Year 4 boys represented the school against St Mary’s Hall this week. The wet conditions did not deter either team from playing two very competitive matches. Both games went down to the wire with the B team losing 2-1 and the A team drawing 4-4. All the boys continue to demonstrate huge improvements each week and this performance really showed how far they have come. Well done. Thank you to the St Mary’s Hall and Highfield parents who bravely battled the elements to support their boys.
Netball v SMH and Kirkham Grammar by Amelie 4J
On 15th November, Year 4 played a Netball match against SMH and Kirkham Grammar. It was our 2nd match and our first game away so we were all very excited. It was a really good team effort and we all enjoyed the well-earned cookies and juice SMH kindly gave us at the end!
Alumni News
