Dear Parents

4M Assembly

Thank you, 4M, for a very special assembly this morning all about a very important person: our mother. You told us about the history of Mothers’ Day, which was first recognised 400 years ago, but the most important and personal part of the assembly was when you told the audience why your mum was special to you. This was incredibly touching and meant a lot to our mums in the audience. Thank you to Mrs Morrice for organising the Assembly and Happy Mothers’ Day on Sunday to all our mothers.

Geography Exhibition

Congratulations to all the children who contributed to the Geography Exhibition. Your exhibits were amazing, and the amount of thought and time spent on each exhibit was very clear to see. I really enjoyed hearing about what inspired you, the research you did and how many of you really enjoyed the time spent with your parents on the project. The exhibition has certainly inspired a real passion for Geography and was a celebration of all your hard work and enthusiasm for the event. If you didn’t get the opportunity to see the exhibition, please take a look at our Facebook page where you will be able to see some of the exhibits. A big thank you to Mrs Davidson for organising this event.

Open Day

Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who attended the event. It was a very successful day and a wonderful chance for the children to really celebrate and talk about what they have achieved at Highfield. If you know anyone who missed the event but would still like to visit the school, please encourage them to ring the School Office to book a tour. Thank you for your support.

HPPTA

Thank you to our HPPTA who organised the secret shop today. I hope all the children manage to keep their surprises secret until Sunday. They certainly spent time thinking carefully about choosing just the right gift.

Reception’s Mothers’ Day Breakfast

Our Reception Class was in delightful form this morning as they sang and danced for their mothers and treated them to a special Mothers’ Day Breakfast. Well done, Reception! You gave your mothers a very well-earned treat!

Year 4 visit to Gujarat Hindu Society Temple

On Tuesday 7th March, Year 4 visited the Gujarat Hindu Society Temple, in Preston. As we entered the building, we had to remove our shoes and then we were able to have a dot of food colouring placed on our foreheads to welcome us into the temple. Vihaan, Sharman and Aryana enjoyed talking to us about the temple and what they have experienced on their visits there. Our guide explained about the different gods and shrines; we also saw members of the public ring the bell to show they had entered the temple to worship. We finished by joining in a quiet time, a little like meditating and yoga, focusing on ‘Aum’ to control our breathing. Year 4 learnt a great deal and it was wonderful to see all the things we have learnt about this term in the temple.

Year 3 visit the Museum of Lancashire

On Monday, Year 3 embarked on a time-travelling school trip to the Museum of Lancashire for a WW2 themed day. We focused on Life on The Homefront and what it was like for children as an evacuee. We were met by two brilliant guides who were dressed as an ARP Warden and 1940’s school teacher. The children had the chance to take part in blackout games, look at a homemade bomb shelter, dress up as ARP Wardens and experience life in the WW2 classroom. We had a super day learning about how day-to-day lives were transformed during this time and how everyone got involved to help make the best of the situation. A huge thank you to the staff at the Museum of Lancashire and Heritage Learning for providing us with a brilliant day, and to Mohini's mum for her help on the day.

Years 5 and 6 Rugby

A large group of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils travelled to St Mary’s Hall last week to play rugby. The children really rose to the occasion in incredibly cold conditions. Our Highfield players showed improved technique with good passing and tackling skills and a number of well-scored tries. It was a great experience for all the children and St Mary’s Hall rounded it off with a warm and well-deserved tea in the dining room. Thank you to St. Mary’s Hall for hosting us.

National Cross-Country

Well done to Aibhlin, Zaidan and Ahmad who all ran in the National ISA Cross-Country Championships on Saturday 4th March at Worksop College.

The children said the event was a great experience but the hill at the end was TOUGH!!!

Lancashire Hockey

Congratulations to Aibhlin who has been selected for the Lancashire Hockey squad and will be representing the county in a number of matches in the coming months.

Preston Swimming Champions!

Congratulations to the Highfield swimming teams who were crowned champions at the Preston Schools’ Swimming Gala at West View. The swims from all the children were amazing.

Wei Ann 1st in Breaststroke and Backstroke is now Preston Schools’ Swimming Champion in these stokes. Naina came 3rd in her Front Crawl individual race. Tejas came 4th in his Breaststroke final. Special mention to the three Year 4 swimmers who swam so well and Shomi who qualified for the individual finals and came 4th against all Year 6 pupils. Alfie, in Year 4, narrowly missed out on a place in the final in his Backstroke. In the Front Crawl Relay Team, Imogen, Naina, Lilia, and Scarlett came first. In the Medley Relay Team, Scarlett, Aibhlin, Imogen and Anoushka came second.

Year 4 Hockey v Rossall

Our Year 4 hockey team played in their first competitive fixture on Wednesday. All the boys and girls have been working hard at Hockey Club, and during games lessons, and were keen to apply all the skills they'd learned. Both Highfield teams played some brilliant hockey against our friends from Rossall School. There were some brilliant tackles, passes and lots of goals but more importantly, all girls and boys had a really enjoyable time. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to support from the side lines. Mrs Botton

Lockdown Procedure

We will be running a lockdown drill before the end of term.
