Musical Assembly

This was the final Musical Assembly of the year, and it was even more special as it was our final Musical Assembly with Miss Macklam after 35 years at Highfield! There were many solo performances, but we also had several groups performing on a range of instruments. We are very grateful to our music teachers for all their help and guidance throughout the year. The children have been working very hard to prepare for this event, practising for several weeks and months to achieve the high standard we witnessed in the Assembly today. Everyone enjoyed the morning, and we are very proud of all our musicians. A very special thank you to Miss Macklam, who has not only supported the musicians in this assembly, but who has inspired so many musicians during her time at Highfield, including our guitar teacher, Mr Taylor. We will miss the music you brought into all our lives during your time with us and we will make sure your musical tradition lives on!

Reception Trip to Smithills Farm

Reception visited Smithills Farm today. They enjoyed feeding the animals, watching the cows being milked and asking lots of questions. They particularly enjoyed holding the chicks and rabbits, as well as stroking the owls, donkeys and alpacas. A tractor ride to feed the donkeys completed a wonderful and very busy day. There were even a few sleepy heads on the way home!

Celebration Assembly

Our children enjoyed celebrating their achievements during their final Celebration Assembly of the academic year. It was wonderful to see our talented pupils being recognised for their achievements in such a wide range of activities. Everyone was smiling and excited to share stories about their achievements. It was lovely to watch the pride emanating from them, not just for their own achievements, but for their peers’ as well. A big thank you to Mrs Prince for organising this celebration.

Junior Sports Day

Last Wednesday, we enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon outside for our Junior Sports Day. All of the Juniors represented their Houses, taking part in hurdle races, sprints, middle distance races, javelin, sack races, relay races and the obstacle race. It was lovely to see the children supporting their teammates, even showing off the motivational signs they made in class! The parents watched proudly as every single child participated in the afternoon. Pendle finished in 1st place with Bowland winning the Tug of War, which the children loved taking part in! Thank you to all the parents who came to support as well as all the staff who helped to create such a wonderful day for the children. A huge thank you to all the Juniors who showed great team spirit and made us all proud! A special thank you to Mrs Botton who has enjoyed her last Junior Sports Day at Highfield; we wish you all the best in your new post.

Preschool Sports Morning

Yesterday saw our final sports day of the year with our youngest competitors: Preschool. The children have been practising the events for weeks in preparation for their first ever Sports Day! As excitement bounced through Preschool, our children were eager to show off their skills to their families. The children competed in hurdles, egg and spoon races, sack races, javelin throws, bean bag throws and bean bag balances. It was a great morning, filled with laughter and cheers, with the Preschool children demonstrating wonderful team spirit. Each child was rewarded with a medal and an ice lolly for all of their hard work.

Well done to Arthur who represented the North West of England (aka Tensworth) in the UK Lions U13s Hockey Championships in Nottingham.
