Are you wondering what we've been doing at Highfield Priory School lately?
Year 5 enjoyed their special French Breakfast this week in the beautifully decorated Highfield dining room which was transformed to the 'Café Haut-Champ’! The pupils always look forward to this once-in-a-Highfield-lifetime event which occurs annually for Year 5s. With French music playing in the background, the class used prompt cards to practice discussions on the topics covered this year, such as favourite colours, sports, hobbies and school subjects. The pupils had also prepared and rolled their own croissants and pains au chocolats which they ordered in French using the phrase ‘Je voudrais un croissant et un pain au chocolat s’il vous plait’. They enjoyed eating them with du chocolat chaud or du jus d’orange. The conversation was flowing and everyone had a fantastique time!
Year 3 performed their special assembly following their topic of ‘Children in WW2 – Evacuees’. The class did a fantastic job of presenting this topic through song and acting with all the pupils participating with enthusiasm and energy!
The school had great time celebrating (and learning all about) Chinese New Year! There was a delicious range of Chinese food served at lunch time and our Reception children dressed specially in red to mark the occasion. The Reception children have been working together to create a huge Chinese dragon today in celebration of Chinese New Year. After parading the dragon all around the school for everyone to see, they then had fun trying some Chinese noodles using chopsticks and eating a fortune cookie. The class also practised saying Happy New Year in Chinese and discovering what animal it was when they were born. A busy and fun day discovering all about another culture and festival.
